The countdown is officially on, and the energy in the dojo is through the roof as we realize we are now just 18 months away from our dream trip to Japan in 2027. This marks the very first blog in what will be a long and exciting series as we document every step, sweat-soaked gi, and milestone along the way.  This isn’t just a simple overseas trip; it’s a huge undertaking that combines determination, community spirit, and a whole lot of heart. It takes a special kind of person to sustain the effort required to balance training and fundraising continually for such a long period, but our team is proving they have exactly what it takes to go the distance.

Our fundraising efforts are already well underway, starting with a fantastic weekend of tagging and bagging at the Trinity Atlantic Superstore. It was wonderful to see our members out in the community, and we are keeping that momentum going with Greco pizza coupons currently for sale. Whether it’s packing groceries or selling coupons, every bit of effort helps get our athletes one step closer to the international stage, and we are so grateful for the support we’ve received so far.

In the dojo, the intensity has shifted into a higher gear with the start of our Elite training sessions. These workouts began last Sunday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and they will alternate to Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM next weekend. Let me tell you, this Elite training is certainly not for the faint of heart. These are grueling, high-energy sessions filled with intense Kihons, Ido Geiko, heavy pad work, and rigorous general fitness designed to push every athlete to their absolute limit.

The path to Japan is paved with challenges, and our first major test will be the Canadian Championship in Montreal on May 2nd. Attendance at this event is mandatory, as it serves as the essential stepping stone to reach our second major test: the 3rd North American Kyokushin Kenbukai Championship held right here in Dieppe, New Brunswick next October. These competitions are vital for sharpening our skills and ensuring our team is prepared for the world-class talent they will face overseas.

The ultimate reward for all this hard work is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. In 2027, our athletes will travel to Japan to visit the original Honbu of Mas Oyama, immerse themselves in the beautiful sights and culture of the country, and test their training against the best of the best at the Hiroshige Cup. It is a long road ahead, but with the dedication our team is showing today, the journey to Japan is going to be an unforgettable adventure. Osu!
